So I went to the ARIA’s last night with dukey….it was another hot summer night, totally my cup of tea….NOT!
BUT we had got awesome seats, celebrity status I tell you! We were pretty much next to the stage and it just so happened all the celebrities walked past us or waited behind us before going on stage... so everywhere we turned there were famous people.
Here are our highlights:
I had a moment with Jessica Mauboy, while she was on stage waiting to perform, she caught my eye and we had endless moments of thumbs up, love symbols and smiles.
Natalie Bassingthwaite spoke to dukey... she walked up in front of him and fully gave him the full on welcome mat... he froze, and then highest pitch vocal scream, that even Mariah struggles with was ejected from him ..it was too cute , like a little kid in a candy store!
Hamish and Andy gave me quality hi -5 ‘s! serious Quality!
And then there was Ladyhawke!! I ran into her in an aisle outside and we smiled and Hi-5'ed , and she was sitting right behind me, so as we were leaving i totally interpruted her texting, and said "Love your work Pip!" she smiled and said in that gorgeous kiwi accent "Thank you so much" shoke my hand and we were off ...
So now about the actual performances:
Temper Trap and Empire of the Sun nailed it! And congrats to Empire of The Sun for getting the 2 big awards!! Owned it!
And this is for you Paul :
Robbie Williams stole the show, the crowd went absolutely crazy, he seemed shorter than last time I met him, but he had the audience go nuts when he performed “Bodies”
See below:
In conclusion, Ladyhawke, Empire Of The Sun, Temper Trap, Daniel Merriweather, Lisa Mitchell, Kate Miller-Heidke, Sarah Blasko, Eskimo Joe, The Presets, and even Jess giving the world quality music from DownUnder in 2009..Nice one guys!
I gave Lady Gaga a HUGE wrap previously, but I stand firm at this stage, and yes just 12 months on, she is possibly the most unique pop artist since Madonna.
On reflection, and thanks to valuable comments from John and Oliveria, I think she hasn't quite hit the imperial stage of "Vogue", so I now compare "Bad Romance" to "Express Yourself".
I know still a BIG call, but its exciting.............now can Miss Gaga produce a "Vouge", time will tell, and as I said the speed of success, reinvention, creativity, it will likely be before 2011.
Oh and just to put it all in perspective, Madonna is still streets ahead. Freeways even. But damn Miss Gaga it's a grand start!
So here is my rundown on the Lady Gaga effect.
Fact : Lady Gaga is really a breath of fresh air to pop music. She has reinvented, created art, and become the pop icon in just over a year. It was exactly year ago today I went from who is this American wannabe to being absoultely in love with her and the incredible vocals and sounds on the masterpiece album "The Fame" (.ok the album officially became my #1 album in the week of December 14, 2008, Issue 1325).
I guess Australia falling in love with Pokerface so early as evidenced by November 17 it had became the #1 single and after already 4 weeks on top, it returned to the top spot and then stayed there for another 4 weeks till January 18 2009.....at that time Just Dance finally reached the top in the USA and UK! (Here in Oz "Just Dance" was on top back in September 2008) I got on the Gaga phenomenon by DECEMBER 2008.
In Australia, and possibly to keep that momentum going we were given the 3rd single "Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) and my first #1 for Miss Gaga! To this day it remains only an OZ & NZ single..and its such a simple beautiful song its a shame for all the massiveness of her image and other master dance hits this has got lost by the way side......anyway I've become sidetracked here so lets look at my analogy of the Lady Gaga effect:
Just Dance DEBUT= Holiday DEBUT....both first big singles, both big dance tracks, both making the artist name become well exposed!
Poker face 3 months later = Like a virgin 1.5 years later....both huge singles, both identifying the artist with a definite shock factor, and brand name
Eh Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say) 6 months later = Borderline / Angel 1.5 years later...both a softer side, both a lost classic...
Love Game 7 months later = Papa Don't Preach / Open Your Heart 3/4years later ....both huge, both edgy, both with that unique shock element, and the artist is a global name!
Paparazzi 9 months later = Like A Prayer 6 years later ...both ground breaking videos causing more shock value, catchy amazing pop songs, and mega pop hits
Bad Romance 1 year on = Vogue 7 years on ....you get the idea :)

Love the marketing for this, well the 7"vinyl every two weeks, unique and real "music fan" basis!
Here's the cover to single A of the A-Z series, 26 singles will be released in total. A new single will be released every fortnight ....so for one year, we get 26 singles from Ash!
Lovely!
and the video ....totally a winner, how may other artists would be so game..another big win for ASH! in my book!! Yay to Ash!
So this came on the music channel last night, the classic original, yes the Tood Terry Remix gave EBTG the commercial success they deserve, but this orignal version..it made me cry again, good crying, its an absolute classic, and would definitely make my top 10 ever...which i must do one of these days....

Thanks to auspop, I read that Yog rumours are still evident! Just come to Sydney even Mr. Michael! Anyway the December 4 release of the "LIVE IN LONDON" DVD is a very exciting forthcoming event!
Simply George Michael ranks #1 male artist ever in my books. Ever.
Another Lady GaGa song, will probably also be on the repackaged The Fame Monster, its just a nice album filler and apparantly will be included on the Japanese release of the standard ‘The Fame’ album. It's Gaga its nice its unusual... :)
Meet Me Halfway -The Black Eyed Peas, essentially a Fergie track and think 80's Madonna sounds, hell she even sings "at the borderline" This is truly a gorgeous track and i.m.o. better than the the mega single that was I Gotta Feeling ....full chart to follow :)
After reading some rave reviews, FizzyPop etc. the promise of something wonderful here was expected. And it delivered. "Love Comes" is a grower, and before you know it the chorus stays happily in your head. "Love Don't Live Here" is a fantastic follow up from lead single, but the next "Rapture" wasn't really necessary as its a bit of a filler. "Seventeen" should be a Pet Shop Boys track, they should swap their track off Yes, "More Than A Dream" which is totally Bananarama and everything would be in the right place. Nevertheless "Seventeen" is a beauty! "Twisting" is also a stunner, and escalates to the amazing "Tell Me Tomorrow",(Single #3 me feels) but it dosen't end there. The peak of the album is next the ABBA-esque "The Runner" is the albums highest point, vocally the girls own this one and should be the next single. "Extraordinary" and "Dum Dum Boy" continue in the spirit of this vibrant pop, yet heartfelt album, and the album ends adequately with "S-S-Single Bed" and the more stronger closer "We've Got The Night".
I will always love the Banana girls, i have since i was swept by their beauty viewing the priceless "Robert De'Niro's Waiting" video clip 25 years ago, and they conitinue to put a smile on my face and enjoy life.
Thank you Bananarama!
..and seriously that was the best line up, yes Hiedi (especially) and Amelle did a good job filling in gaps, but surely now Keisha is gone, it just seems a bit wrong..that's my opinion anyway.
